Wonders of Science/ Scientific Progress or, Science in the
Service of man
Outlines:
introduction- science in our daily life- science in education and amusement-
some other gifts of science- science and destruction- conclusion.
“Science is the labor and handicraft of
the mind”, says Bacon. A man is the product of science. Science has made man
what he is today. Science started on its march with the discovery of fire and
that of agriculture was its next footstep. Since then it has been marching
onward and forward. We can see the wonders of science in every walk of life.
The modern man cannot dream of life without
the little wonders of science all around him. The alarm clock that wakes him in
the morning, the brush and paste he cleanses his teeth with, the food he eats,
the cloths he puts on- all these are the wonders of science.
It is said that education is life. But
science is education and education is science. So, science is life. Who brought
in writing, printing, and the books? Could man amuse himself by singing,
dancing, and playing? Who provided the radio, the gramophone, television, and
the talkies? Science is the single answer to all these questions.
Science has helped man to win the forces
of Nature. Science has bridged the oceans and linked the four corners of the
world. We have big ships to cross the deepest seas and oceans. We have
airplanes to cross the highest peaks of the mountains. Now space is going to be
conquered. The wondrous dreams of the past are realities today.
But science is also bringing destruction
to man. The atom bomb, the hydrogen bomb, jet fighters will surely end the
world. But we must use the gifts of science and not abuse them.
